TWEED VALLEY RALLY, MURWILLUMBAH.
(By Noela Miller)

The weekend of 3rd & 4th May saw some FX-FJ club members at the 25th anniversary of the Tweed Valley Rally, a rally which is growing in popularity every year with people attending from as far a field as Sydney. Murwillumbah turned on some fantastic touring weather – clear, sunny and beautiful. Club members Willy and Donna Hinds attended the rally for the first time and were hosted by locals Duncan and Noela Miller. The ladies thought it would be fun to ‘swap’ partners (and cars) so Team Willy Nelson (Willy and Noela) led the way followed by The Double D’s (Duncan and Donna). Club members Jim Killalea and Cheryl Nott also attended in “Old Girl”. Morning tea and lunch was enjoyed by the participants, and after a static display of over 100 gorgeous vehicles including a grand display of many models of Holden over the years with Mt Warning as a backdrop , the cars headed out for the first run. Rally papers are handed to drivers as they leave the grounds and so no-one knows the route until they read their instructions. We headed south over the hills and criss-crossed the Chinderah-Yelgun freeway 5 times following the old country roads and beaches until finally ending up at the historic 100 year old Duranbah Public School for afternoon tea. A grand spread was provided by the school and it was a great credit to them.
Sunday morning saw everyone back at the Race Course at 8.30am ready for another surprise jaunt and the weather did not disappoint. This time the rally navigated the back roads and the little villages surrounding Mt Warning – all the time being cautious of the bicycle racing event being held on the same roads, as well as the many motorbike riders enjoying the countryside. Everyone enjoyed the countryside fruit stalls and village coffee shops before making their way back to the Race Course for a delicious spit roast lunch followed by trophy presentation.
As all of the cars were immaculate it was decided by the organisers that no one car could be nominated as better than another and so names were drawn out of the hat for winners in the various categories. All in all, another wonderful weekend of rallying and good companionship was had.
Fish and Chip run to Morgan’s Scarborough 26th April 2008
A nice clear afternoon / evening with the run being attended by Tony and Jill, John and Elizabeth, John and Roseanne, Ted & Faye, Bob and Margaret, Shane and Debbie, John and Tineke and Peter Lawrence for his first outing since rejoining the Club. A fair crowd were out and about but seating was not a problem and the spread laid out on two of the tables highlighted those that were used to organising a lovely setting. A very enjoyable evening was had with laughter and reminiscence of old race cars being discussed. These are great outings so please join in. (by John W)
