MINUTES of FEBRUARY AGM 8th February 2010.

held 8.02.2010 Meeting opened 8:45pm Chaired by Steve Jeffs

Steve read his presidents report for the year ending February 2010:

PRESIDENT’S REPORT FEBRUARY 2010

It was this time a year ago when I was given the honour of being your President.
I had been away from the club for some 30 years and it sure felt great to be back and more importantly, have another black sedan to cruise around in with my family.
My first exposure to the club since coming back was when my sons Michael, Daniel and I volunteered to be part of the staff behind the scenes at the FX FJ Nationals at Beenleigh. We all know that this event has been just the best ever and I was proud to be part of this great event although my part was small as I had came in at the very last moment and as such, all the hard work had already been done.
As we all know, this event took some 2 years to organise and all those members involved must be commended for the truly professional operation.
When I looked back over 2009, I was surprised at the amount of work we have done and listed below are just some of our activities:
Next on the agenda was to move our meeting venue- THE TOOHEY FOREST SCOUT DEN. We now have a great place to hold our meetings and with a few clean up sessions though the year, the building of a fireplace, refurbishing the back deck etc, we can be proud of our efforts in this area. I would like to thank all members involved in this operation as there has been a lot of work done to make the Den what it is today.

Brisbane Hotrod Show – we had some 10 cars on display and with sponsorship from Eagers Holden, some back breaking work to set up and pull down the stand, we were very well represented and we have increased our membership through the enquiries at the show. Don’t forget, we also picked up 3rd place for club displays and Russell Tronc did very well with his ute.

Member Services Register – while only some members have nominated for this register, I for one have benefited from drawing on their experience to assist me in both business and personal areas. I would like to remind members that this register has been put together to help you with services you would ordinarily need to buy/gather anyway – so my view is if you need something and a member can help, wouldn’t be nice to deal with someone you know? The choice is yours.

The Presidential Phone – this has simply been the most efficient way to contact members. I have tried to use this form of communication sparingly as I believe it is important to keep this special and not become common place. 0437 FXFJ48
While on communication, we have significantly increased the number of members onto email. While we still have a ways to go to get everyone on board, this too has been and excellent way to get the message out.

The REVS – I would like to thank all those that have contributed stories/information to our newsletter and I think you would agree it is a great read. By sending them out by email has saved us some costs and we have been able to send out full colour photos of our various runs etc.

Web site development – while we have some work to do here, our site has been enhanced significantly over the past year and again, I would like to thank those who have committed their time in this area.

Club Runs – I for one have not been able to attend all runs this year however, I must say I still get a great kick out of knowing I have the day off just to get together with some great people with a common interest and to go for a cruise. After talking to some of the older members, they too still get the basic enjoyment of going on a run in their prized possession and sharing the experience with their family.
Looking back through out photo albums, it is disappointing that our run numbers have dwindled and I guess it is in some way the pressures of this busy life we now lead. I would like all members to take a moment and just see if you have the time to be part of the runs we have organised for this year………. I can assure you that you will have a fantastic time!

Club History Photo Albums I thought it was important that while in the position as you President I would look through all our old photo albums to get a grip on the history of the Club. I have always found it is important to see where you have come before you make decisions for the future and our Club certainly has a rich history.
It was while I was looking through them with my family, I realised that this was a fantastic record of our Club however…….IT WAS LARGELY THE ONLY RECORD OF OUR CLUB.
2 things needed to be done. One was to take good care of this history record and secondly get it all transferred onto some type of electronic form so that everyone could enjoy them. I must say that both Debbie and Shane offered to do this and the result is simply stunning.
To Debbie and Shane, many thanks and I look forward to seeing all the scanned photos on our website in the near future. I would also like to congratulate you both on the outstanding job on renewing the photo albums as well.

Rule Changes – as I have said before, not all decisions I have made with the Executive Committee have bee palatable to all members but ALL DECISIONS HAVE BEEN MADE WITH THE VERY BEST INTENTIONS.
Rule changes had been one of them and I thank everyone for all their help and understanding in this area.

All Holden Day - History now shows that our Club can basically do just about anything and the amount of work our Club put into this day last October was just fantastic.
What a day! I can not thank members enough for their work to ensure this day was such a success and judging by the amount of cars that attended, people are looking for an event that is professionally run and our Club is just the unit to do this.
Having said that, it was the view of your Executive Committee to resign from the All Holden Day Committee and go it alone with the now new GM ROUND UP. I personally think this is a fantastic idea and I look forward to a massive turnout of all marks built by General Motors.
I am very excited with this new approach and I will be heavily involved here to make the GM ROUND UP the most successful event of its kind in Queensland. You can be assured your Committee is already on the job here and stand by for something very special.
Not only will this event attract a huge number of cars and people, the $5000.00 prize money that is on offer has already made many stand up and take notice of your Club and we are only getting started.

The Christmas Party – well what a line up of cars and what a day! As I was saying earlier, this day really got us back to basics where we all got the car out, dusted it off and shared a great run to our first venue Dudley’s place. After some fantastic morning tea, some games and plenty of fun, we then had line up to a fantastic meal at Calypso Bay at the Drift Inn.
A truly fantastic day and a great member turn out – let’s see if we can keep this type of attendance at the next run.
So, as you can see, it really has been a busy year and I look forward to being part of the Club for some time to come. I would like to thank everyone for their help and advice during my term and I look forward to being an active member of the Club in the future.
Steve Jeffs President
